Ingredients

For the Base Salad
  • 4 cups mixed lettuce (romaine, iceberg, green leaf) chopped
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes halved
  • 1/2 cup carrots shredded
  • 1/2 cup cucumber diced
  • 1/4 cup red onion thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Optional Toppings
  • 1/4 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/4 cup bacon bits or crumbled bacon
  • 1/4 cup croutons preferably homemade
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives chopped
  • 1 avocado diced

Equipment

  • Large salad bowl
  • Salad spinner
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Salad tongs or servers

Method

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry the lettuce using a salad spinner or clean kitchen towels. Place the dried lettuce in a large bowl.
  2. Add the halved cherry tomatoes, arranging some around the edges of the bowl for visual appeal.
  3. Sprinkle in the shredded carrots, distributing them evenly throughout the salad.
  4. Add the diced cucumber and thinly sliced red onion.
  5. If using optional ingredients, add cheese, bacon bits, avocado, or other mix-ins of your choice.
  6. Just before serving, drizzle about half of the ranch dressing over the salad ingredients. Using tongs or salad servers, gently toss until the vegetables are lightly coated.
  7. Taste and add more dressing as needed.
  8. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  9. If using, sprinkle the top with fresh chives and croutons for a finishing touch.
  10. Serve immediately for maximum freshness and crunch.

Notes

  • For meal prep, store all components separately and assemble just before eating.
  • To reduce calories, use a yogurt-based ranch dressing instead of traditional.
  • Add protein like grilled chicken, hard-boiled eggs, or beans to make it a complete meal.
  • For best results, make sure all vegetables are completely dry before assembling.
